Movie – Joker
Overview:
Its quite a sight to behold when you watch as a man is brought into the world with everything stacked against him. From the moment the film starts it is shown immediately that this man has some severe mental problems. From the way he acts to the way others are treating him, any instance that can go wrong does. He simply wants to be accepted but at every turn if it can go wrong it will.
Due to the life that he was forced into, he is taking care of his sickly mom. Everything is shown from an outlook that nothing can be better or is able to. The entire time there is a feeling that it will only get worse. A heavy depressing and sad tone as a man slips into severe depression and breaks is what is shown.
Opportunity for him is slim due to the town getting worse and worse and throughout it shows. From the people and their mentalities or the background scenes of the people, it progressively gets worse and worse.
As it progresses and his breaking point becomes imminent, you start to realize the entire film is all but a twisted comedy. From his *interactions* with others and the people his mind comes to term with everything and he is mentally set free you could say.
Bruce and his family are shown but depending how DC goes about the verse they could make this a standalone movie or loop it into their verse. It is Jokers origin story for how he became simply put so fucked up. After showing the reasoning behind it, it’s a lot more understandable. Getting his point of view on life instead of others showcases how he felt instead of just how he is perceived and the assumptions that follow. This gives the other half of the story
Visuals/Music:
The visuals and way the film was taken in a depressing tone to match with Jokers outlook and feelings. Was a darker tone and color instead of the more vibrate or juicy palettes that a lot of other films go for. Camera angle and shots were more of angles that were there instead of a traditional film where they try to do shaky cam for even the calmest of scenes.
Music was well done and placed. A lot of silence throughout which was for the best. Silence was probably the best way to keep the tone and mood of the film. Music was used though, it felt appropriate when used and added to the immersion.
Final Thoughts:
Easily my favorite film of year that I have seen. From the way they showcased the depression and how any sense of hope he had was turned around into more despair was simply put perfect. His thoughts racing around, imagining what was never there to begin with all the way t the end of the realization and mental break. It is a comedy in its truest sense, his entire life is a joke one could say.
Highly recommend the movie to people but not to those that have a feint of heart or are not able to handle darker topics such as depression or a mental breakdown of a person that cannot be saved. He is only pushed further until there is no hope of return.
