Movie – Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Overview:
In this version of Godzilla we are in the verse that starts from Godzilla [2014]. Due to the way he looks I dubbed him Chodezilla. At the beginning it has a showcase of the kid having conflicting feelings about the moms actions. The mom is in the process of hatching Mothra. Mothra hatches and the whale sound device is key throughout the movie. The moment Mothra hatches is when the plot begins.
After the scene involving Mothra and the mom/daughter, it cuts to the father who the rest of the movie revolves heavily around. He is facing mental traumas from the attacks 5 years ago and they make sure to bring it up often. Monarch, the organization directly involved with the monsters is on the brink of shutting down which a scene involving just this is shown.
With the ground set, finally we are taken to the main event which is Ghidorah. Ghidorah is awaken and a small fight ensues between Chode and him. After the small fight some events unfold that awaken about 10 beasts… more to enhance the suspense but what it did was pose the question of `why` instead of `oh no`. There is another monster that does directly fight in the final clash portion of the movie. During the awakening of this creature, Ghidorah and Chode once again throw some hands but it was all a setup to burn time and pad the film out so they could then make a mess of Chodes homeland :feelstacoman:.
With the third and final clash, it is shown to finally conclude its fight. The fight itself was alright, the acting though really kills it with how edgy they tried to be when delivering the lines at several points in the movie. It gets to the point of wishing you could tell them to sit back a bit, it felt very forced and unnatural.
Visuals/Music:
The visuals of the monsters themselves was done good and they looked great. Most of the budget im assuming went into them which is a complete positive as this was the strongest part.
The music was another good part, but partially. What I mean by partially is that at times they did use the original ost’s and at times a hybrid of old mixed up a tad. The main problem I had was with Chodes theme feeling a bit to tribalistic. I think they were going for a intense sounding ost which the original already was. Not sure why they felt the need to improve on what was already great. If they had the tribal style chant on the mark of Chode doing something it would have melded better and felt more impactful. Other than that the music was good and no complaints, just wish they would not touch certain aspects that don’t need to be improved.
Final Thoughts:
The acting in how actors were portraying their lines and especially the audio really take its toll on wanting to recommend the movie. If it was just those two points I probably still would but the fights themselves and the way, they went about trying to create suspense was meh. Fell quite short for me.
As for the audio in how the actor’s voices sounded… I do not think it was the theater since I have seen several movies at this place before and never once had audio issues with voices. The background OST’s sounded fine along with sound effects. It was the voices themselves that were not clear and sounded heavily compressed. Honestly not sure how this is, probably the first movie that I have gone and seen with voices that are just bad.
I probably would not recommend this movie to most people. Only one’s id say should go out of their way to see it is those who have watched the previous ones or those looking to kill some time and want to see some alright giant monster fights.
