Anime – Kenpuu Denki Berserk
Overview:
OG Berserk anime covers the `Golden Age` arc which is Guts past. Covers the basis of what the end goal is going to be and what the mark on his neck that is shown in the first episode means. First episode could be considered present day while the rest of the 25 episodes are the backstory of how he got to that point.
Guts himself is a lost man throughout the anime, looking for his place and dream that he wants to fulfill and accomplish. Throughout showing his past it shows how he changed and found himself. Was near the end that he had the mental revelation.
Visuals/Music:
Given that the anime was aired in ’97, the animation holds up very well considering its over 20 years ago at this point. The entire color palette is different and is in 4:3 aspect ratio but that doesn’t take away from how well it was animated for its time.
All of Berserks OST’s are good and are placed accordingly to evoke proper emotions given the scene. Never felt they were out of place or didn’t sound good. During action scenes there could have been more intense soundtracks, but the show didn’t need that for the fight to feel tense or impactful.
Final Thoughts:
There is a lot of blood throughout the show, along with a lot of scenes of death. For those who do not like to see darker anime that show a lot of death and blood, probably want to avoid since by the end it gets pretty intense with the visuals. Can understand why some would consider the anime disturbing and not want to watch it.
For those who are comfortable seeing these types of things in shows, I would highly recommended checking it out. It may be old but don’t feel that should be a problem as the sound doesn’t sound shitty or terrible. Sound effects, music and voices are clear.
The way the anime ends I was not expecting, it took a sharp turn real quick. Jumps from the tone it has set so far up a few notches and the way the visuals were only add to the enjoyment.
