Anime – JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken [2012]

Overview:

To get it out of the way, the show definitely lives up to the hype and German engineering. Every scene is dramatized by a wide margin. Oddly this suits the show perfect, the yelling and screaming when in fights to out of the fights they found a way to meld it together well and create a very enjoyable experience. Simply put everything is done over the top yet somehow works and flows together without a single non-hyped moment. Every episode will make you feel hyped.

Jojo is split into 2 different sub arcs throughout its 26 episodes. First part being the mask arc and the second the masks creator. Both the parts follow different characters, but they are both related with a 50-year time gap between the first part and the second.

In the first part we follow Jonathan Joestar and Dio. Dio… where did he go wrong, love and hate him quite a bit, that poor doggo and the opening of the second ep get me just thinking about it lol. The end of the ep 1 when you see the box, you know exactly what has happened. In the first part its just laying the ground down for what powers are going to be shown and a taste for what they can do. Its to get the people familiar with the verse, character powers and how outrageous things are going to become later.

Second part we are following the life of Joseph Joestar, yup another Jojo. His arc is a few episodes longer then the other one but there are three villains instead of one and information that needs to be conveyed which is why. We learn about what the mask is intended for and who created it. There are old characters from the first part still around that have their roles even though its 50 years in the future along with new characters introduced. The hamon power introduced in the first part are expanded upon a bit more and shown more capabilities of what can be done with it. Each fight progressively got more intense with the first being a regular fight where you go alright this is good. Then the second happens and is starting to get to bruce willis and by the end of the third fight here we have a full on bruce willis out there kind of fight. Its great lol. Throw the German engineering and an airplane into the mix and you just sit there with a smile on your face laughing at times during even the most intense of scenes.

Visuals/Music:

The visuals are look very good with quite a distinctive style to it. Everything is more bolded and defined when it comes to characters making all the scenes stand out due to its uniqueness. Characters are all definitely natty no doubt about that, I mean just look at them muscles kek. No complaints about the visuals.

All of the music was on par with the rest of the show where there are no complaints. Ending song to the openings even after them being memed to no end are still songs capable of being enjoyed each episode. Somehow with certain sound effects I generally hate where they do a mic rupture effect worked well. Due to the style of show this is it actually works when used unlike many others. In all honesty due to this being made in 2012 this might have been where the trend of it started. Others see the success of Jojo and try to copy it instead of sticking and finding out what works best for their specific case.

Final Thoughts:

I would highly recommend this to anybody wanting to sit back and not realize the entire day has passed while watching. From start to finish its flow and enjoyment doesn’t waver much. Somehow, they are even able to slip a full episode flashback story in the middle of the most important fight without it feeling abrupt or breaking the flow the show had going which says a lot about the way its executed. Very few have been able to pull that off successfully, lots of props on that end.

Stroheim, oh man is he the true mvp, when he is first showed he has a certain feeling to him where you go I know how this is going to end and before you know it love the guy. All the characters introduced are memorable for one reason or another.

If somebody were to say this is their favorite show or is on their list of favorites I could understand it completely, it’s a very fun time going through all the eps. For me I consider it very good, its not perfect and lacks the impact fullness for me to consider it a favorite of mine but wouldn’t hesitate to tell another to check it out.
