Anime – Date A Live I
Overview:
The entire premise of the show is that to prevent these outer beings called Spirits from causing destruction to the world through a phenomenon called a Spacequake. In its entirety it’s a comedy, romance harem anime. The main character Shidou is tasked to calm these spirits since he is the only known person capable of doing so. The entire season has 3 arcs in total, each arc being one new spirit that he has to date. When he dates them and raises their affection towards him enough and they kiss their powers to cause a spacequake basically disappear and become a non-problem. I say disappear with an asterisk though as they don’t actually disappear with more details given in the anime. The first arcs go exactly as expected with only the last one taking a slight shift in what was the usual flow of things. The focus of the character you believe it is going to be on takes a sidetrack with the last 2 eps being a sub arc on the other person. Hard to describe without spoilers.
Usually I wouldn’t include the OVA but due to the way its done ill just include it. The ova continue directly off of the main season with another day of shidou’s life and date with the character I did not like throughout the entire show. Was it enjoyable to watch though? Yeah, it was alright lol. Overall nothing happens throughout the OVA which is what I was expecting since most shows OVA’s don’t have a lot going on or even enough time to properly flesh out an arc.
Visuals/Music:
Given the animes’ age, the animation still stands up to today’s standards I believe. It does look slightly dated by some shows being released but the same could be said at the time of release as well. There is not any complaints regarding it.
The background music that played did its job and didn’t feel out of place. The place where I find the music was above average was the openings and endings. The songs they had for them are good and enjoyable to listen to.
Final Thoughts:
Not a lot to say about the series except if you want something that is enjoyable then go ahead and watch. There is not nudity but ecchi in throughout the show of various types of shots from nearly every female character and male at times. Origami though… sigh she is one of the few anime characters I just do not like at all. Every scene she is in is annoying imo. I know a lot of people love her for her character style but that is the exact reason I do not like her. She kills the mood in every scene and is one of those people that’s there to piss you off. She has a chill attitude on the outside but her true self is anything but chill. She has her reasons for being a bitch at times, but a lot of character growth needed for me to tolerate her. Sadly, she will probably be the one I remember most due to not liking her the most lol. Most of the other main characters are pretty forgettable so it’s not saying anything big. The style of the characters are just not the types I like enough to find them memorable for long. They are however fun to watch interact with each other.
The entire show is not bad, the plot is simple, characters are fun to watch and there are ecchi moments spread throughout with decent to good quality action scenes in basically every ep. For some reason I was wanting more from it but you get exactly what it is promising.
Overall Rating: 3/5
